A Green Solution to Tube Broom Disposal

Category:

It is pretty easy to see how sweeping service companies keep our communities green while on the job, but you might be a little surprised by how some of our members are using creative strategies to go green back at the shop too.  Take tube brooms as an example.  Many discarded tube brooms end up in landfills, but thanks to Doug Sauder, we have a greener solution to tube broom disposal.  Doug found a Colorado-based company called repurposedMATERIALS that will take your old tube brooms….they even pay for the shipping.  The tube brooms are then repurposed and sold to farmers who use them as livestock scratching posts.  While we were researching this story, we also learned that board member Gerry Kesserling used to donate his old tube brooms to a local llama farmer.  Gerry has switched to strip brooms, so Central Ohio llamas may be itchier than they used to be, but you get the point:  why send discarded materials to the landfill when you don’t have to?  If your fleet still uses some tube brooms, consider re-purposing them and leaving the planet a little greener.
